Digital Safe and Participatory Learning Environments for Women Community Educators
Eight Femina ry educators and staff learn from adult-education organisations in Estonia, Latvia and Denmark, then bring digital facilitation, media-literacy and safe-space methods back into our workshops for multilingual migrant women in Finland.

Why we are doing this project
Femina ry runs non-formal learning for adult women aged 20–60 from multilingual, migrant and intercultural backgrounds: newcomers to Finland, unemployed or underemployed women, community volunteers and women returning to education or work. Many of them face language barriers, limited digital skills or social isolation.
Our own practice showed three gaps:
- Digital facilitation. In several recent courses up to a third of session time went to helping participants navigate digital platforms instead of learning content.
- Inclusive methods for mixed groups. Facilitators need practical ways to moderate intercultural discussion, balance participation in mixed-ability groups and involve women who stay silent because of linguistic insecurity.
- Knowledge sharing. Good methods often stay with one educator. They are not documented or passed on to colleagues.
What we want to achieve
Objective: to measurably improve our staff’s digital and inclusive teaching competences and introduce structured participatory methods into regular adult-education programmes reaching at least 120 learners.

Mobility activities
All participants are Femina ry staff: adult educators and facilitators working directly with learners, plus staff responsible for programme coordination, so that new practices reach our planning and quality procedures and not only individual sessions. Participants are selected through a transparent, fair and inclusive procedure. Each person follows an individual learning plan agreed before departure.

Preparatory visit to Estonia, 28–30 September 2026
Our coordinator meets the job-shadowing host to agree the observation programme, mentoring arrangements and individual learning outcomes for each participant, and to check the practical arrangements. The visit ensures that the November job-shadowing is built around our needs from the first day.
Course in Latvia, 15–24 October 2026 (3 staff, 8 days)
A practice-based course on digital facilitation and blended-learning design for non-formal adult education. Participants will work with digital collaboration platforms, build short media-literacy and fact-checking exercises for adult learners, and design workshop formats that combine online and face-to-face learning. The course includes online preparation before and follow-up after the in-person part.
Course in Denmark, 1–9 November 2026 (2 staff, 7 days)
A course focused on participatory methods and psychologically safe learning environments for multilingual and mixed-ability groups. Participants will practise moderating intercultural discussion, balancing participation between confident and quieter learners, and inclusive communication techniques, and will test participatory workshop structures they can bring directly into our programmes.
Job-shadowing in Estonia, 24–30 November 2026 (3 staff, 5 days)
Two educators and one programme coordinator will observe workshops, mentoring sessions and blended-learning activities in an organisation working with multicultural communities. They will discuss methods with host educators, analyse how the host engages learners and handles digital tools, and document practices for our toolkit. Each participant follows an individual observation plan agreed during the preparatory visit.
Hosting partners
Sillamäe Society for Child Welfare (Sillamäe Lastekaitse Ühing), Estonia
A public-interest non-governmental organisation founded in 1989 in Sillamäe, Ida-Viru County. It works on integration and migrant adaptation, non-formal education, youth work, human and child rights and family issues, and has carried out more than 300 local, national and international projects. It is a member of European networks including EAPN and the Anna Lindh Foundation. Role in this project: host of the preparatory visit and the job-shadowing.
Training Centre “Komunālceltnieks” (SIA Mācību centrs “Komunālceltnieks”), Latvia
A training centre in Riga that hosted Femina ry staff in our first Erasmus+ adult-education project, “Women’s Leadership in Health & Safety Education” (2025–2026). Role in this project: course provider for the Latvian mobility.
Folkevirke, Denmark
A cross-party Danish association with local circles across the country, where cultural, social and political topics are discussed through study circles, meetings, project days and excursions. It publishes the cultural magazine “Folkevirke”, has run international projects on cultural integration, everyday democracy and storytelling, and is a member of the Danish Adult Education Association (Dansk Folkeoplysnings Samråd). Based in Copenhagen. Role in this project: course provider for the Danish mobility. Website: folkevirke.dk

Results
The shared methodological toolkit, summaries of the peer-training sessions and reports from the mobilities will be published here as they are completed. The toolkit will include digital facilitation guidelines, inclusive communication practices and participatory workshop templates, free to use for other adult-education organisations.
Final results will also be available on the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform (search by the grant agreement number above).
How we work to Erasmus quality standards
- Inclusion and diversity. Open and transparent selection of participants, and learning methods designed for multilingual and socially diverse groups.
- Environmental sustainability. We choose lower-emission travel wherever it is practical and keep materials digital.
- Digital education. Blended components in the courses and digital tools in follow-up training.
- Recognition of learning. Europass Mobility documents, course certificates and internal reflection reports.
- Sharing results. Internal peer-training, open publication of the toolkit, and exchange with other organisations in the Erasmus+ network.
