Key Expert: Leif Lonsmann, journalist, former CEO of Danish Broadcasting Corporation, board member of the Nordic Journalist Center. Lecturer in journalism at a series of universities in Ukraine.

This interactive youth training-seminar will bring together young people, youth workers and emerging content creators from Nordic and Baltic countries (Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Estonia) to strengthen media literacy, democratic resilience and critical thinking skills in today’s rapidly changing digital environment.

The seminar focuses on the growing impact of disinformation, propaganda, online manipulation and information warfare on democratic societies and young people’s everyday media consumption.

Through expert presentations, discussions and practical exercises, participants will explore how media narratives shape public opinion, how false or manipulative information spreads online, and how young people can become more resilient, informed and responsible digital citizens.

Special attention will be given to current security and information challenges affecting the Nordic-Baltic region, including foreign information manipulation, AI-generated content, online polarization, emotional influence in social media and the spread of misleading narratives during times of uncertainty and crisis.

Participants will learn practical fact-checking methods, verification tools and media analysis techniques that can be applied in studies, youth work and everyday online communication. The seminar will also encourage young people to reflect on their role in protecting democratic values, supporting trustworthy information environments and strengthening resilience within their communities.

The training combines expert knowledge, reflection and hands-on group work, encouraging participants to critically evaluate media content, identify manipulative communication strategies and discuss how youth can contribute to stronger democratic and media resilience across the Nordic–Baltic region.
